In the crisp autumn air of November 12, 2025, the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZ) held its 9th Nanyan Sports Culture Festival and 16th Fun Sports Games. Faculty and students from the School of Advanced Materials (SAM) participated with full enthusiasm and energy, embodying the university’s emphasis on well-rounded development through sports.
Through the opening ceremony parade and a series of team-based games, SAM members demonstrated resilience, unity, and a spirited willingness to take on challenges. Their collective efforts were rewarded with several honors, including Third Prize in the Opening Ceremony Formation, the Sportsmanship Award, Men’s Runner-up in the “Passing the Torch” relay, and Runner-up in “Strength to Move Mountains” tug-of-war.
During the opening ceremony, the SAM phalanx—led by the Class of 2025 and dressed in the School’s signature T-shirts—marched in with confident, synchronized steps. Their dynamic performance blended group dance with rhythmic motion, culminating in the spirited chant: “Constantly innovate through careful thought and resolute action; soar far and wide to showcase advanced materials!” The display drew warm applause and set a vibrant tone for the day.
Highlights from the Games
Passing the Torch (4×100m Relay):
The men’s team sprinted to a runner-up finish with impressive speed and smooth baton exchanges, while the women’s team earned cheers for their determined effort and teamwork.
Energy Transmission:
Teams guided tennis balls using special props, focusing on precision and calm coordination under pressure.
Dragon Crossing the River:
Participants worked together to maneuver a long “caterpillar” prop, laughing and encouraging each other across the course.
Tetris Sprint:
In this fast-paced relay, teammates quickly passed and stacked colored blocks, showing quick thinking and spatial awareness.
United Cyclone:
Six members held a long pole while weaving around obstacles, moving in remarkable sync throughout.
Interlocking Rings:
Inspired by the Tower of Hanoi, players collaborated to solve the puzzle strategically, adjusting smoothly when needed.
Full Force Advance:
This roller-based “tank push” race demanded quick reactions and seamless cooperation, which SAM executed with speed and fluidity.
Strength to Move Mountains (Tug-of-War):
The final event brought intense excitement. Amid loud cheers, SAM’s tug-of-war team held their ground with remarkable tenacity, earning a well-deserved runner-up result through pure collective effort and will.
As the games concluded, SAM participants left with not only medals but also strengthened bonds, joyful memories, and a renewed sense of shared spirit. The teamwork and resilience shown on the field will continue to inspire their pursuits in academics, research, and beyond—carrying forward the School’s culture of positivity, collaboration, and fearless striving.
